Brazilian fashion designer Márcia Ganem addressed a large Experience audience on the interplay of tradition and innovation in her award winning work. Drawing on a carefully cultivated, and ethically rewarded, networks of skilled craft persons and local techniques, and on the vibrantly diverse cultures of her native Bahia region of Brazil, Ganem also incorporates space-age materials into hand-made haute courture and prèt à porter for a delighted world of fashionistas. Sponsored by the Departments of Fashion and Latin American Studies, as well as the Experience, Ganem's talk reached students curious about her process, her materials, and her creations.
