I suppose one of the reasons I'm so passionate about photography is that I hope, by capturing an image of someone, I'll be able to keep the persons I know and love from ever dying. Alas, it doesn't quite work. The agressive cancer that overtook Derek this past weekend, at the age of 19, has deprived us of a wonderful student and friend. I first photographed Derek on his very first day of college, and he remained, and now will always remain, the same sweet, respectful, hopeful boy I met.
