Each year, just about a week before the arrival of our students, the College community gathers to recognize those who give their working lives and most of their waking hours to its educational mission, and to relax and restore ourselves. An abundance of food, drink, music, games, conversation, and comraderie, all under the cope of a blue buttermilk sky, launched the academic year in style.
I covered the festivities in journalistic style, with no posed pictures, capturing my friends and colleagues in the act of being themselves. I stuck with available light in most cases, pushing the ISO on the D200 and opening the eye of 50mm 1.8 on the indoor shots, and appreciating the sun with the 18-200mmVR when we moved outside.
The camera was particularly drawn to the self-inflicted mayhem of the pie eating contests - a uniquely American sport (because we've garnisheed the biggest piece of the Planet's Pie).
