Respect, Gratitude, Recognition
Thanks to my student Tyler Boland, I had the privilege to witness the presentation of medals to two U.S. Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Ray Parker (100) and Frank Stellar (101) as Chevaliers de l'Ordre de Léopold by the Kingdom of Belgium. The dignified and moving ceremony took place in the newly constructed Holocaust Memorial wing of the Berks Military History Museum in Mohnton. Representative Mark Gillen, a leading sponsor of the Museum, introduced the program, which included remarks by Major General John R. Pippy, the Belgian General Consul in New York, Filip Vanden Bulcke, and the two Veterans.
