My colleague Gerry Ronning has devised an ingenious course that combines reading and research in the new labor history of the late 19th century with hands-on work in the crafts of cabinet making, ceramics, and glassblowing. Instruction in these skills takes place in the studios of The GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in downtown Reading, Pennsylvania.
