While the Lions had their shoot around, I toured the Guilford campus. It's a lovely and distinguished school, rich in history, but not much richer in endowment dollars than is Albright. I lingered in the Library, newly redone, since it exemplifies the paradigm that Albright is anticipating: conversation alcoves, co-laboratories, social spaces, and lots of art, including a painting by Albright's legendary artist, Harry Koursaros. I discovered that other humanities departments also have messy coffee corners and that art students have paper, paint, and sometimes a more refined social sensitivity than some other members of the community. Guilford is a tobacco-free campus, and yet the library renovations were funded in large part by the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
